A forgotten key to healthy movement
What is the best way to keep movement smooth, easy, graceful or powerful? How can you regain pleasure in movement after injury?
These questions have been important to me for some time. It’s not just an academic interest. I’ve looked at and trained in many disciplines over the years. I’ve read the marketing claims, met many movement gurus and had many disappointments. I’ve worked with students and clients to teach what I’ve learned. I test and research with my own injuries.
I am constantly searching for what can be simply communicated and applied. While teachers should be paid, I also believe fervently that having the power to change our health through movement can be easy, accessible, not dependent on equipment or special knowledge.
I’ve written about different aspects of this before, given exercises and principles that put pleasure and power into movement and almost anyone can do straight away.
I’m going to outline a very simple yet powerful movement idea in this piece.
This article is not about which movements or even movement qualities are helpful. It is more about a particular attitude, which is especially effective if you are dealing with injury or pain.
