A lot of comments have bashed Mr Pilgrim for bashing the lifesyle gurus or people who aspire to better themselves.

I don't think that's exactly the point.

I think the point is to question a society that values this kind of aspirationism so highly, that defines success so often monetarily.

Questioning something doesn't necessarily demonstrate moral superiority, it can show curiosity which is almost the opposite.
