Does it hurt? Move like you care
Have you ever been your own worst enemy?
Did you ever call yourself an idiot, or something harsher after you have made a mistake? Have you insulted yourself over things that you did, or things that you did not do?
You wouldn’t talk to your friends that way. Unless you wanted to lose them.
There is a moment in most people’s development when they understand that they treat themselves worse than they treat others, certainly worse than people they actually care for.
With a little attention and a lot of patience you can begin to change these mental and emotional habits.
There is a lot written about this already. I am going to outline a different approach which is parallel and you may find especially useful if you are in physical pain.
This is not about how you talk to yourself.
This is about how you move. And it is powerful. As some say the unconscious is the body. This may go beyond physical pain in its effects.
Most of us feel let down by our bodies at one point or another. There may be a special tendency for this among people like me, ageing athletes.
There is a vocal component “stupid knee, stupid foot, stupid shoulder.” or whichever part you think under-performed.
