You have focused on two horrible chapters in the history of the world - the holocaust and slavery in the US.

I am neither German, nor American but there is something I keep in mind when considering my heritage, because it is universally true.

If you are alive today your direct ancestors suffered horrendous cruelty. If you are alive today your direct ancestors inflicted horrendous cruelty. Go back far enough and this true. For everyone.

This cuts away at any sene of superiority I may have, and it cuts away at any sense of victimhood or guilt.

It points me in the direction of what I would like for my descendants. Which is life flowering amongst life of many forms.
