Why do so many people insist on this?
You know that there are cultures who are currently or were very recently still in the paleolithic? Amazon, Papuan, and Australian cultures for example.
I don't think they actually do a lot of rampaging.
They can't afford to, they need to live with extreme sensitivity to their surroundings to survive. Rampaging does not fit well with either hunting, or gathering.
Emotions are old, not primitive. What is primitive is the way we manage our emotions. What isn't primitive is the way that modern technology can manipulate them.
Gripe over - glad you circle back to some paleo-repect by the end! To get beyond our modern-ego era we can use some stone age technology of ritual and relating.
